Door & Gate Automation

Open your gate from the car, even in the rain or a blackout. Sliding and swing gate motors and automatic doors, installed and serviced.

Hooting at the gate at night and waiting for someone to open it is uncomfortable and unsafe. So is getting out of the car in the rain to push a heavy steel gate, or watching a motor grind to a halt because the battery died during a blackout. Many gate motors fail early simply because they were undersized, poorly aligned or never serviced.

Nerpax Systems supplies and installs gate automation for homes, estates, apartment blocks and businesses across Nairobi, Kiambu and nearby counties, along with automatic doors for shops and offices. We take responsibility for the whole job:

  • Survey: we weigh up gate type, size and weight, slope, track condition, power and how often the gate is used.
  • Supply: a motor rated for your gate, with rack, brackets, safety beams and remotes.
  • Install: a level plinth, correct rack alignment, protected cabling and secure mounting.
  • Commission: we set travel limits, force, auto-close and safety beams, and test on mains and battery.
  • Handover: we programme your remotes and show you how to release the gate manually.

The aim is a gate that opens smoothly every time and stops safely if a child or car is in the way. Request a free quote or book a site visit to have your gate assessed.

Why choose us

Motors matched to the real gate

We check the gate's weight, length and usage before recommending a motor, because an undersized motor is the most common reason gate motors burn out early.

Built to keep working in a blackout

Every installation includes a battery and we test it on battery power during commissioning, so you are not left stranded outside during a KPLC outage.

Safety set up properly

Safety beams and force settings are configured and tested so the gate stops or reverses when something is in its path, which matters with children, pets and cars.

The mechanical side done right

We level tracks, align the rack and fix sticking rollers or hinges first. A motor cannot compensate for a gate that is hard to push by hand.

Repairs to any system

We service and repair existing gate motors and automatic doors, including systems we did not install, and tell you honestly when replacement makes more sense.

Gate automation options and how to choose

Sliding gate motors

Sliding gates are the most common type on Kenyan compounds and the easiest to automate. The motor sits on a concrete plinth beside the gate and drives a toothed rack fitted along it. Domestic motors suit typical residential gates, while heavier-duty motors are needed for long or solid steel gates and for gates that open many times a day, such as at apartment blocks and businesses. Choose a sliding motor where there is a level track and enough wall space for the gate to run back.

Swing gate motors

Swing gates open like doors and use either arm-type or linear ram motors on each leaf. They suit driveways where there is no room for a sliding gate to run, but they need clear space for the leaves to open and strong pillars and hinges. Steep driveways and wind-catching solid gates may need extra-strong motors or a different approach.

Automatic doors

For shops, banks, clinics and office lobbies, automatic sliding doors improve access for customers, wheelchair users and people carrying goods, while helping to keep dust and noise out. They open on a sensor and can be locked after hours.

Questions to ask before choosing a motor

  • How heavy is the gate, and does it move easily by hand today?
  • How many times a day will it open, including staff, tenants and deliveries?
  • How long are the power outages in your area, and how many cycles must the battery handle?
  • Who needs access, and should remotes, codes or phone numbers be easy to add and remove?

We answer these with you during the site survey so the motor is neither underpowered nor oversold.

Remotes and access

Beyond standard remotes, you can open the gate with a keypad code, a phone call or app through a GSM opener, or link it to an intercom system so you can see visitors and let them in from inside the house.

What affects the cost of gate automation

  • Sliding or swing gate, and for swing gates, single or double leaf.
  • Gate weight and length, and how many times a day it opens.
  • Condition of the track, rollers and hinges before automation.
  • Distance from the power supply and need for a new plinth or cabling.
  • Extras such as GSM opening, keypads, extra remotes, solar charging or intercom integration.

As an indicative 2026 guide, a supplied and installed domestic sliding gate motor is often KES 55,000 to 120,000, and a double swing gate system KES 80,000 to 180,000. Automatic doors are quoted per opening. These figures depend on site; confirm with a free site survey.

Who we automate gates for

  • Homeowners who want to drive in without hooting, especially late at night.
  • Landlords and estate committees managing busy shared gates with many residents and remotes.
  • Businesses and warehouses with delivery traffic and staff access to control.
  • Schools, churches and clinics that need controlled gates and accessible doors.

Servicing and repairs

Gate motors work hard outdoors in dust, rain and sun. Regular servicing cleans and checks the gearbox, rack and track, tests the battery and safety beams, and adjusts limits before small problems become burnt boards or stripped gears. Batteries in particular wear out and should be checked regularly.

If your gate jams, moves on its own, stops halfway or only works on some remotes, we can diagnose and repair it. Replacement remotes, batteries and racks are available through the Nerpax shop. For a complete perimeter, consider pairing your automated gate with an electric fence.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a gate motor cost in Kenya?
It depends on the gate type, weight, length and how often it opens. As an indicative 2026 guide, a supplied and installed domestic sliding gate motor is often KES 55,000 to 120,000, and a double swing gate system KES 80,000 to 180,000. Heavy commercial gates cost more. Prices depend on site; confirm with a free site survey.
Will my automatic gate work during a power blackout?
Yes, if it has a healthy battery. Most modern gate motors run on a battery that is kept charged by mains power, so the gate keeps opening during outages for a number of cycles. Old or neglected batteries are a common cause of gates failing in a blackout, so they should be tested during servicing. Solar charging is available for sites with unreliable power.
Is a sliding or swing gate better for automation?
Sliding gates are usually simpler and more secure to automate, and work well on level ground with wall space for the gate to run. Swing gates suit compounds without that space but need room to open inward, sturdy pillars and a fairly level driveway. We assess the site, slope and gate construction before recommending either.
Why does my gate motor keep stopping halfway?
Common causes include a weak battery, a blocked or misaligned safety beam, a dirty or damaged track, a rack that has slipped out of alignment, or force settings that are too sensitive. Sometimes the gate itself has become too heavy to move freely. A technician should check the mechanics before replacing any electronics.
Can I open my gate with my phone?
Yes. A GSM gate opener lets authorised numbers open the gate with a free missed call, and some systems use an app over Wi-Fi or mobile data. This is useful for letting in family, staff or deliveries when you are away, and for estates where issuing many remotes is impractical. It needs reliable mobile network coverage at the gate.
Can you automate my existing manual gate?
In most cases, yes. The gate must move freely by hand, run on a sound level track or hinges, and be strong enough to carry the motor brackets. We often repair rollers, tracks and hinges first. If the gate is badly warped or too heavy for a practical motor, we will tell you during the site survey.
How often should a gate motor be serviced?
For homes, a service every six to twelve months is a sensible guide. Busy gates at apartments, estates and businesses benefit from more frequent checks. Servicing covers the battery, safety beams, rack and track, limits and gearbox, and usually costs far less than replacing a burnt control board or a motor that has worn out early.
